Until the mid-seventies, our domain was a thriving farm with lots of cattle and other animals in various stables. After a while, the former owners Palmer and Madeleine decided it was time for something different and they entered the tourism sector. During the first years, De IJzerhoeve focused solely on so-called ‘farm tourism’ with heaps of people sleeping in the hay in our stables, for example during the annual Yser Pilgrimage.
However, the domain quickly got popular and was quickly transformed into a real campsite, filled with tents and caravans.
Parlmer and Madeleine decided it was time for some well-deserved rest and after finding a new proprietor they retired. Unfortunately, De IJzerhoeve lost its operating license in 2014, resulting in its closure. A little later, the grandchildren of the original owners took matters into their own hands and after extensive infrastructural works, the campsite’s honor was restored in 2016.
